After WW2, P&O like many other British and Commonwealth shipping companies, embarked on rebuilding their fleets due to their losses. Chusan - launched on 28 June 1949, and used mainly on the UK to Australia/NZ route to transport thousands of people to a new lives there ('£10 Poms'). Chusan near completion being fitted out at Buccleuch Dock under 150 ton crane. Aircraft Carrier astern could be HMS Majestic/HMAS Melbourne. Photo taken from the High Level Bridge.
