After World War Two, P&O, like many other British and Commonwealth shipping companies, embarked on rebuilding their fleets due to their losses. Himalaya was launched 5th October 1948, and used mainly on UK to Australia/NZ route to transport thousands of people to new lives there. (£10 Poms). Himalaya been towed through Ramsden Dock to depart Barrow dock complex through dock gates, tug boats belching black smoke.
