Orient Line Orsova
Mar 1954
After World War Two, Orient Line, like many other British and Commonwealth shipping companies, embarked on rebuilding their fleets due to their losses. Orsova was launched on 14th May 1953 and was used mainly on the Australia and NZ route to transport thousands of people to new lives in Australia and NZ. (£10 Poms) Orsova with its iconic "Welsh hat funnel” departing Barrow in March 1954 with Tugs; Isle of Man ferry boats, Naval ships and an Aircraft Carrier in the background - could be HMS Majestic/HMAS Melbourne.
