HMS Hermione

View looking at the starboard forward quarter of an older 2nd Class Cruiser. White Ensign at stern. Turning in the channel near Ramsden Dock entrance, passing a tow to a waiting tug. Tug (Cartmel) on left. 2nd tug at rear. Dredger in background. Hermione was a cruiser, 4360 tons displacement, built in 1893. She was in Barrow as tender to the airship and her officers conducted experiments with the hydroplane. HMS Hermione arrived in Barrow in Autumn 1910, sailed on 21 Oct 1911 to assist HMS Resource, aground on the Isle of Man, returned to Barrow on 7 Nov 1911 and finally departed on 2 Dec 1911. She was sold in 1921 and used as a training ship until scrapped in 1940.
