SS Duchess of Devonshire
c. 1911
View of starboard side of small steamer in channel, going towards Barrow off Piel Island. No passengers on view or flags. Tug on right of image, stationary in channel. TSS Duchess of Devonshire was built in 1897 by Naval and Armament Construction Company, Barrow for the Barrow Steam Navigation Company for use on Barrow-Belfast route. In 1907 she was sold to Midland Railway. She was taken up by the Admiralty in 1914, as an armed boarding ship. Scrapped in Malaga in 1949.
