SS Vedra Wreck
9 Dec 1914
View looking aft on the wreck. Collapsed and flattened sections of steel and deck folded down. Taken two days after the SS Vedra, carrying Benzine, ran aground near Halfway Buoy in a storm. With help of tug Furness, she got a tow on but she was holed and leaking benzine and then caught fire, killing all but one crew. Wreck grounded on Lightning Knoll shoal. Ship built in 1893 Laing James & Son, Sunderland. Owned by Jacobs John I & Co Ltd.
