SS Fairhaven aground
1919
View of ship high and dry on sand at low tide. Large tapering crack amidships from deck level. Four people on right on sand. Gun mounted on sterncastle. Sankey Catalogues etc incorrectly say this is SS Fulmar in 1914. Ship, built 5 years earlier, loaded with iron ore from Almeria grounded on south end of Walney, at night, on 3rd Jan 1919. Crew taken off, she later drifted onto Walney and broke her back. The iron ore was expected to be salvaged.
